Spring Trend-Spotting with CH Shopkeeper

By Aimee Theriault, HillontheAvenue

Chestnut Hill native Heather Stauffer, who grew up on Druim Moir Lane, is elated to be celebrating her first spring as boutique owner of Roots on the Avenue.

Stauffer has had spring on the mind since January and February – as these are the months she spends exploring the country’s biggest trade shows in Atlanta and New York City.

“I most enjoy the winter trade shows, because even though its cold and grey outside, all of the vendors are showcasing their exciting spring and summer merchandise – it really gets me excited about the changing season at my store many months in advance,” says Stauffer.

Her approach to unearthing new product lines amid the hustle and bustle of trade shows is to keep focused on finding items that she would use in her own home. “Everything in my store is a collection of what I personally like – I don’t necessarily go with an exact shopping list on a buying trip because I find I make better purchases when I let myself get inspired onsite,” says Stauffer.

Essential Spring Trends to Bring into Your Home

The biggest trends to watch out this year are bright pops of color in all home products, eco-savvy and sustainable accessories, products made from natural materials, and merchandise that allows homemakers to bring living elements indoors. All of these trendsetting traits will be in full bloom at Roots in the coming weeks.

Stauffer’s favorite items (pictured in group photo below) that will be arriving at Roots in April and May are hanging recycled glass terrariums that allow plants to thrive and grow inside the 3” hole opening.

Stauffer’s Favorites at Roots this Spring

Among the shelves and tables of new merchandise at Roots, you’ll discover these favorite warm weather must-haves for you home:

bags

Take-Me-Anywhere Recyclable Bag

Price: $9

Why it’s a must this spring: These affordable recyclable bags fold up into tiny balls, and can go anywhere with you! The two-toned bright color palate make you instantly in sync with spring trend colors, and the padded shoulder strap adds a comfort component that the majority of currently sold eco bags don’t have.

bags

Natural Wood Trivet / Serving Tray

Price: $35-$46

Why it’s a must this spring: “This is the best example of investing in an accessory that highlights natural beauty,” says Stauffer. Can be used as a trivet or serving tray, this product is a simple piece of wood treated with food safe oil that will make any grouping of cheese and crackers look exquisite!

bags

Hand Poured, 3-wick Soy Candles (Try Vintage Peony)

Price: $32

Why it’s a must this spring: Stauffer adores these candles not only because they’re hand poured by local artisans in Center City Philadelphia, but after the 80 hours of burn time has elapsed, customers can use the empty screen printed containers for storage or decoration.

bags

Large entertaining drinking dispenser, Single stem bubble vase, Hanging terrariums (Sm. & Lg.)

Prices: $180, $25, $46-$64

Why all 3 are a must this spring: “All of these items are single purchases that can bring an entirely new feel to a table setting or room,” says Stauffer. You can easily incorporate different pops of color by choosing a different single stem flower to highlight each week in the vase, or serve a bright fun spring cocktail for guests in this timeless dispenser.
